Poland vs Russia

So there was this interesting match in group stage between Poland vs Russia in Warsaw. Everyone was looking forward for this match and it was dubbed as one the most highly charged, tensed match of the tournament with all the histories and nature of tension strains between the two countries. About a week prior, signs of bad things started when the russian fans fought and beat the Polish stewardess in Wroclaw after their first match against the Czech Republic, in which they won 4-1.  I watched it youtube and it was pretty bad.

On 12/06/2012, the day of the match between Poland and Russia in Warsaw, Russians plan to make a march from the city center towards the National Stadium. The plan was seen as some kind of threatening moves by the Russian, especially in the capital city of Poland.  Coincidently, It was also their National Day. The match devinitely evoke national pride of the two countries. Demonstrations were held in front of the Russian team's hotel and police forces and securities were deployed in case something bad will happen.

I have never felt anything like it before. I was studying for an exam which i will take the following day. The situation on the day of the match was like a war about to happen. I can hear police/ambulance sirens everywhere, helicopters flying above my apartment all the time and news coming out on my facebook feed and on soccer website. It did not take long before some fights broke out. Particulary a few hours before the match. Russians and Polish fans were fighting outside the stadium and at the fan zone area. Numerous were reportedly injured. Police forces have to use rubber bullet guns and water cannon to stop them and i saw some pictures taken by reporters and some got injured with bleeding and some has to be sent to the hospital. It was so crazy!

Fast forward during the match, Russia scored first and Kuba(jakub blaszczykowski ) equalized later on (Poland started the tournament as lowest ranked team and Russia won 4-1 a week before s Czech). I was studying when Kuba scored. While reading, i was surprised by the shouting outside my windows by everyone and the neighbours! Yep! Poland just scored! wow! Never had heard that much voices from the locals in a football match. Even the kids shouted "yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa....yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa". :-D
Match ended 1-1. The following day. some 100+ people were reportedly arrested. Not surprising considering how intense the Poland vs Russia match was!

Kuba scoring :

Hollyyy moolllyyy!! Look at this in the fan zone city center when Kuba scored!

But in the end, thank goodness nothing really bad happened. I guess. :)

The night before the opening day, concerts etc

The night before, TV3 crew asked for some Malaysian students to be interviewed the next day ahead of the Euro 2012 match. Some of us went and BOOOOMMMM...they were on TV next day !

The Opening day. So many people. Those who were'nt at the stadium were at the Fan zone set up in the heart of the town close to the infamous Palace Of Culture and Science.
